YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN
Why miss your childhood days? Well because, then, it was just plain fun and innocence, no need to worry or fear. You ate what you liked, played to your heart’s content, slept at will. You simply ruled your world. Nobody took a disdain for what you did or didn’t do. You chose your own playmates, you had your toys, you watched Barney and Friends, Spiderman and Cinderella cartoons. You got money to buy biscuits and sweets. You got everything you demanded. Life couldn’t be sweeter. Strangely, the childhood innocence faded away before you realised it.
Now, your decision is guarded, you are a step away from becoming an adult. You are cautioned not to visit friends. You are constantly reminded that you are no longer a child.[‘when i was a child, i spoke like a child, thought like a child, reasoned like a child, but when i became a man[adult], i put away childish things’]. Now, you have to go to school by yourself and find your way home after school. You share part of the household chores. You notice strange bulges in your anatomy and you become scared. ‘Don’t worry, your mother tells you. You are gradually becoming a man/woman.
Now, you are in the dreaded phase. A full- fledged adult. You realise that the life of an adult is much more complicated. The greatest part is the responsibities and decisions you have to take on your own. No one is ready to offer assistance. You are constantly reminded that your destiny lies in your hands. You have to be a man and face tough decisions that could make or mar you. You decide what course to study, you choose your own career, you choose whom to marry and you continue to shoulder responsibilities and face life’s toughest decisions. You realize that life is just one darn thing after another, both good and ugly so you have to be always prepared for the unexpected.
You realise where your strength lies. You realise that life is about sowing and reaping. You learn many lessons as life takes you through the years of childhood innocence to your teenage years and finally an adult. You realise there are people who will not make it into your future. You realise the need to be strong and courageous. You realise the fact that you came into this world alone and you’ll surely leave one day. There are times you feel overwhelmed by life situations, times you feel so lonely and dejected. Wondering if God is still there. However, the truth is; if you need wisdom in life, you often have to be schooled by problems when making career, marital and financial choices.
There are times and seasons in a man’s life. A time to be happy, time to be sad, a time to find and a time to lose, a time to be quiet and a time to speak up, a time for war and a time for peace. The solace that you will find in the latter of your cogitation is that everything is appropriate in its own time. There is no new thing under the sun. Nothing lasts forever, so make the most out of every situation. Do not forget how to live and be happy. Your time may be up soon.
