THE SUNDAY MESSAGE; BEST EASTER EVER
I just woke up from slumber after a plate of pounded yam with goat meat and malt. I am typing this piece on my laptop in the dining room with a cup of chilled water by my side. I am tucked away somewhere located on the map of Nigeria doing what i love to do best. Now i must do the work (blogging) of He that sent me while it is day because the night cometh when no man can work.
I woke up very weak this morning and was not sure i could make it to church but thank God i did eventually because i heard the message of redemption. This was my first easter Sunday in church in a very long while. I actually saw Panam Percy Paul today in church. Gentle, goodlooking, unassuming talented gospel singer. How i love his songs so. They made my day while i was in the university. Yeah, my sister had the cassette (not CD). Talk about fulfilling destiny, this is one of such men.
I didn’t quite understand the reason for Easter but i got deep answers today. The message and purpose of this essay is not about Easter but about the love of God. The message of hope we have always heard but paid little attention to. Now more than ever, we must pay attention and listen carefully to the truths we have heard or we may drift away from them. For since the messages from angels have always proved to be true and people have always been punished from disobeying them, what makes us think that we can escape if we are indifferent to this great salvation announced by the Lord Jesus himself.[read on carefully, don’t be bored just yet]
Yes, because of God’s great kindness, Jesus tasted death for everyone in the entire world. We know what real love is from Christ’s example in dying for us. And so we also ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. Let us practise loving each other, for love comes from God and those who are loving and kind show that they are the children of God, and that they are getting to know him better. But if a person isn’t loving and kind, it shows that he doesn’t know God for God is love. Hatred stirs old quarrels but love overlooks insults.
If anyone says ‘i love God but keeps on hating his brother, he is a liar; for if he doesn’t love his brother who is right there in front of him, how can he love God who he has never seen? And God declares that Jesus is his son. If anyone doesn’t believe this, he is actually calling God a liar, because he hasn’t believed what God has said about His son.
For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ must still be dead. And if he is still dead, then all their preaching is useless and our trust in God is empty, worthless, hopeless and all the apostles are liars because they have said that God raised Christ from the grave, and of course that isn’t true if the dead do not come back to life again. If they don’t, then Christ is still dead and you are very foolish to keep on trusting God to save you and you are still under condemnation for your sins; in that case, all Christians who have died are lost!
And if being a Christian is of value to us only now in this life, we are the most miserable of all creatures. But the fact is that Christ did actually rise from the dead and has become the first of millions who will come back to life again some day. Simple matter. That is the significance of easter and it is a message of love, of hope and of man’s redemption.
When my dad was driving me to church this morning, he said those who have not gone to church in a long time would attend church today. Me and my brother didn’t talk. Then he said ‘these people are still the same ones that will wear the egungun mask and celebrate the festival when it is time for egungun, they are the ones that are behind oro festival, they do everything together, they don’t belong to a place’. We both bursted into rancorous laughter.
Now there is a small village close to the estate where i live and at the close of work(since three weeks ago) everybody hurries home because of the oro festival. Now they just built a little building where they said it is the home of the devil. They put a small gate there, an abode for the devil. Truly, these are the same people you see in churches. Christ is our only hope of glory.
Happy easter Sunday
