By the third day, we were already fed up and eager to leave. Dad had arrived from his work station too. We began to work around how she was going to be discharged when we ran into another hurdle.
The idea was for her to come daily for treatment if need be. But, she was already stabilised. Took some X-rays and surgery recommended.
It was agreed that she should be discharged but after doing their routine checks for the day. That was how a female doctor that was supposed to round off the whole process kept us all waiting far into the night.
Dad had to go and tell her to hurry then she began to abuse him. It became a shouting match with nurses rushing down to address the situation and possibly mediate. The female doctor in question was a young single lady doctor who spoke carelessly to the husband of her patient. She had waved him away rudely which necessitated the talks.
After it was settled, we were sure glad to go. I finally bade UCH farewell but not before visiting a particular canteen where my friend, who I had visited(at uCH) few months before this incident had taken me.
She was writing her thesis on ‘usability of hospital website’ or something(if I still have my memory intact) at UCH. If she’s reading this, she will remember that day as she dragged me reluctantly to the canteen and bought me a take home plate of rice and chicken. Those were the days when I was home alone in my father’s sprawling edifice with the goats and chickens to keep me company. I wrote a post to that effect.
Well, I went back to that canteen that day after practically starving myself for three straight days because I had no appetite. So, getting released from UCH gingered me back to life.
Ok, in future, the surgery was later done successfully at the Bowen University Teaching Hospital(OGB).
May I never visit UCH again. Not even the canteen.
