There have been a number of reality shows airing on TV stations across the country, most of them promoting musical talent among youths, dance shows, Big Brother Africa etc but never in the history of Nigeria has there been a reality show dedicated to mothers or to the family in order to promote core family values and increase awareness on the benefits of good parenting and a strong family structure.
The family, which is the core centre or bedrock of the society has been neglected for so long. Parents hardly have time for their kids, kids are becoming nonchalant and aggressive, there is an increase in pedophiles and children are now sexually abused.
The fantastic mum project has been created to fill this gap in Nigeria. This is a project that is dedicated to mothers, to sound parenting, to good family systems and to rebuilding parent-child bonding. This is the first reality TV show for mothers in the country.
The fantastic mum project is kicking off in the Federal Capital Territory. Already, about 400 mothers went through the audition process and only 15 successful applicants were selected who would be kept in an apartment in Abuja for the 21-days competition. Kids will be brought, among other things, for them to take care of, and at the end of the 21 days, the fantastic mother shall be crowned.
The winner would go home with a grand prize of N1.5 million and a brand new car, while the first and second runner ups would N700,000 and N500,000 respectively.
The CEO of the fantastic mum project, Mrs Joy Akanonu is a young mother who is passionate about motherhood, kids and an improved family system. She told News Agency of Nigeria that the project is to rebuild family and core motherhood values that are being gradually eroded.
She said “we have found out that the neglect of our children has become a thing of concern. So, we design this event to right the wrongs in parenthood. This project will remind us about the core values of motherhood and the call to parenthood.’’
She noted that modern civilisation and economic exigencies has made many mothers to have little or no time for their children, which is gradually eroding family values and morals.
She said it was time for mothers to retrace their steps; especially those who leave their children under the care of maids.
“This is a platform to rebuild and rebrand family core values that are gradually leaving our homes.
Right now, all efforts are on ground for the full kick-off of the programme anytime soon. The manual registration of the successful contestants has been ongoing at the Garki Office. Post Auditions will kick off this January. The successful mothers are so excited about the project and very soon, cameras would be taken to their residences for the post audition screening.
The TV reality show would be aired on Africa Magic, My TV, AIT. So, keep your fingers crossed. More updates are coming through
