Yesterday, i decided to hang out at the ikeja shopping mall with my friend, Oris. While waiting for her at KFC, i looked around and saw so many things. Lagosians! How they love to spend money and hang around in places like this. Both the white, black, young and old, the timid, the bold, the courageous, in fact all tribes and culture are represented in this big place which inhabits shoprite, KFC, Woolworth, Truworth, Mr Price, Accessories to die for[ that’s the name of a shop], LG, MTN among others.
People came out carrying heavy purchases of whatever…?? Then, i saw a former colleague of mine. We were in the same class in school, one of the girls that used to dazzle ‘em in school. They were a group of four girls, although there were several cliques in my class, theirs stood out. There was one with long Indian hair, of india parentage, with a very beautiful face that even the beautiful called her beautiful, lol. There was another one, very light skinned and naughty, then deola that i saw and ope. Deola drove a camry while we were in part five and she was the envy of most girls. They never really came to class often but they sure came out with good grades[ don’t ask me how].
She was looking leaner than the last time i saw her in school. I waved at her.
Hello, good to see you again. Where do you work? I asked her
What’s the name of the company? I needed to ask
Oh! She smiled. An advertising company
I said ok. I see. Good for you. Don’t blame me; i only wanted to confirm if life was all about getting everything on a platter of gold.
My friend came and we moved inside. Well, i had a memorable time at an accessories shop before she came and i also visited the Glendora bookstore. I have actually been looking for the sequel to Francine Rivers’ book, her mother’s hope. The sequel is ‘Her daughter’s dream’. They didn’t have it.
We visited Mr Price. Am not going to talk much on the boutique because am not running an advert for them. I saw a lot of nice things though. It was a nice experience. Then we gisted over a pack of pop corn and cone ice cream. Wow, that ice cream really made sense, we both enjoyed it.
When i looked at the time, i realised that it was already far spent. So we rose up to go. At the exit, i bumped into a long time friend in school. She lived in that crazy girls hostel in school, olayiwola hostel. Those girls were bad and i like them. In those days when they would not pump water those girls would mobilise all the other girls in the hostel and they would go on rampage, enter the pure water factory located in the hostel and begin to carry bags of water which they would use to take their bath. It was fun watching them in those days. If it was aluta too, they were ably represented. Yeah, they really passed through school.
We hugged. How are you doing? So good to see you again. She said to me
Am good ooo and the feeling is mutual. I could see that she was with her long time boyfriend in school then.
I got married in akure last weekend.
Really, i could not believe my ears. I hugged her again. Congrats, am happy for you. Then i released her to go meet her hubby who was patiently waiting for her.
But come to think of it, dear reader how would you be married on Saturday and i will see you at the mall on Tuesday. Are you not supposed to be in the Bahamas or better still, Ghana here and be easing out all the stress. Lmao, they already did the entire honeymoon way back. Ha ha ha
