If I were 22….. by Omobolanle Adeyemo
If I were 22, I wouldn’t be thinking of Marriage next year, in two or even in 3 years. Maybe I’d begin giving it a thought in 5 years or more (if there’s a bobo anyway, ) But Imagine if I had a luxury of 5 years removed from my age now. If I were really 22, Mehn! Imagine 5 years to start and finish my doctorate degree, 5 more years to earn some valuable professional experience, 5 more years to stretch and expand my wings…5 years to save more millions…5 more years to have my money working for me…5 years to work and earn some cool money…5 years to build my own construction masterpeice…Wow! I wish…
Anyway, this makes me wonder why everything a woman ever wants in this life (and in her next life) is just to get Married….And after getting Married, what next? No life goals? No career plans?! No dreams?! No vision?!
You ask a girl child and all ever she dreams of is Prince Charming coming to sweep her off her feet. As she grows older, all she sees is her friends, classmates, neighbours, cousins, acquinatances, colleagues, even enemies getting married…but not her. So I wonder if all a woman ever thinks and believes God made her for is to get Married??? She longs for just one proposal from a guy and viola! accepts without confirming all his claims or ascertaining who he really is, she falls for him. This is not to add that after she’s even married, she begins to look down on all her ‘Single’ friends Hmmmmm…like been Married is some higher qualification!
For me anyway, I am only tripped with those who have excelled in their careers path and have stretch beyond the ordinarily to do something tangible for themselves. Not those who have nothing in their skulls except the ‘Mrs’ title to their names.
I am only moved with women especially in my own field who have gone further than what I have achieved. Women who run by a vision, women who are intelligent, who know that they are made for something more that been Married. Women who have brains and use it.
Disclaimer: I didn’t say been Married isn’t a good thing but while waiting for Prince Charming to sweet you off your feet, get your hands and feet doing something! Get your life running on your God-ordained assignment!
