5 Things You Need To Know About My Book

I only have about few weeks left to finally unravel this book and present it to the public.
However, there are some questions you might want to ask when/after going through the book. Let’s just say I peeped into your mind and decided to bring out these likely questions;

.

1. Is this a personal story?

.
No.
I know that most authors are somehow always linked with their story. I guess that’s the way most readers find convenient to connect with the book.

.
OK. Even though I know that Chimamanda is happily married and settled abroad, yet I still can’t disconnect her from Ifemelu the blogger who had an interesting romance with her high school lover Obinze in the novel ‘Americanah’. I guess I chose to see her through Ifemelu’s character even though I haven’t met her.

.
2. Why is the story set mostly in Ibadan, then Abuja and Ogbomoso?

.
Most writers write from an angle or environment they are most familiar with. The stories grow, take shape and appear more real/meaningful when a writer writes from the environment that has had the most impact on her upbringing, childhood, education, character and values.

.
You would agree that some of Buchi Emecheta’s story was set majorly at Ibusa in Delta State(talk about the Slave girl, head above water etc). I saw Ibusa, walked though Ibusa and learnt their culture through Buchi’s mind. She wrote about Lagos and England too. She lived her final years in England and schooled in Lagos.

.
In Ayobami Adebayo’s debut novel, Stay with me, which has been shortlisted for the Baileys Women’s Prize for Literature, her book was set in ilesa and ile ife where she grew up.

.
Its the same reason why China Achebe’s books are set in the eastern part of Nigeria as well. Its the same reason why Helen Oyeyemi even talked about Bodija in her book, The Icarus Girl. Its the same reason why Wole Soyinka dedicated a whole book to Ake in Abeokuta where he talked about his childhood years.

.
I have only lived in 4cities in Nigeria(what about Zaria? Scratch that). Ibadan, Lagos, Ogbomoso and Abuja. I lived in Ibadan for 27 years(I really can’t hide my obvious love for ibadan no matter how much I try), Ogbomoso for about 6 years and FCT, well, its been 4years.

.

I left Lagos out in my book because the story of Lagos is for another day. I lived in Lagos for 2years on and off. I love Lagos and its people but for its near insanity, flamboyance and teeming populace, its not my favourite part of Nigeria(lol).

.
3. Why Should I buy this book?

.
It is almost 200 pages of fun, excitement and wow….I wrote about love, betrayal, parenting, marriage, career, cheating, double dating, teenage pregnancy, Facebook, Instagram, aso ebi, NYSC, telemundo, zeeworld, bere-oje-gate etc
If you were raised in the 80s in ibadan, you’d really enjoy and recommend this book to everyone.

.
4. How can I get this book?

.
It will be available on Konga. You can order it from any part of Nigeria. The link will be available soon. If you want to buy it in ibadan, you can buy directly from my publisher or pick it up behind glo office, challenge, ibadan.

.
Delivery in Abuja is free. I will personally handle that. All you need is send me your email detailing your name and address while you pay into my account. Details will be available soon.

.
If you won’t buy this book, at least give me a shoutout on your social media profiles.

.

5. Why are you selling at 2000 naira?

.
I didn’t plan to initially. It would have been lesser. But being a perfectionist, I chose to publish in cream bond paper. Its more expensive not to publish in the popular traditional white paper.

.
That being said, we are in a depressed economy. Even paper is now expensive whether white or cream. Everything has gone a notch higher in price. So, pardon me. If this was published by Farafina or Cassava Republic, it would have been easier to set it at 1k. At least it would have been their decision.

.
But, Self Publishing in Nigeria isn’t beans. Only my publisher can explain what he went through in my hands before I finally paid.

.
Now to the best part….I can’t keep calm about this because………..

.
I will be in ibadan for a Book Signing/Book Reading/Meet the Author event at the University of Ibadan, Theatre Arts Department in June.

.
If you will be in the city of ibadan by then, please join me(dusts shoulder pad) at the book reading to get your copies of my book with autograph. You can also ask me questions. You will watch me read from the book live(details coming soon).

.
Then, the hardcover edition will be available in ibadan too. If anyone wants the hardcover from any other part of nigeria, you can get it on request. The normal paperback copy is still 2k only.

.
I would be willing to answer more questions in the comment box…
